Monday 7 June | Snafu | 7pm | £7.50 adv Tickets

A welcome return to the city from David Tattersall’s quirky, witty indiepop trio The Wave Pictures.  I don’t mean that in a patronising ‘oh, you’re so quirky and witty with your songs and stuff’ way, they’re genuinely good and one of the best bands of their ilk around.  Check the ace animated video below, the title track from their new EP ‘Sweetheart’ which is released on the same day as this show on Moshi Moshi.  Supports are Little Kicks frontman Steven Milne doing his excellent solo stuff (backed by a full band) and folk-pop weirdos Reverend Shepherd.

Thursday 3 June | Snafu | 10pm | £3

Rapidly-expanding Glasgow-based promoters, podcasters and, erm, kidnappers Detour Scotland make their Aberdeen debut on Thursday at Snafu with Song of Return, Make Sparks and Right Hand Left in tow.  We caught up with Detour’s Ally McCrae to find out what they’re all about…

Music: Kill Em All

April 21, 2010

Thursday 22 April | Snafu | 10pm | £6/£5adv

The Filthy Dukes bring their famed Kill Em All night North from its home at London’s Fabric for the first of a new bi-monthly residency at The Dirty Hearts Club.   They’ll be joined by KEA co-promoter and one of the DJs/producers du jour Stopmakingme whose eclectic mix of electro, techno, house, post-punk, pop and anything in between pretty much sums up the ethos of the night.  Which sounds fine by us.  Check out some mixes here, they sound fine by us too…

Sunday 11 April | Snafu | 7.30pm | £7/£6adv

Oxford folk-pop outfit Stornoway have been all over the press and radio of late, which is all well and good considering they are, erm, well, good, well good even. Up this way, some of the coverage has been about the fact they’re not actually from Stornoway however, and in an entirely predictable twist of fate they play the Lewis town before this show, a fact that’s not been lost on the BBC who published a story on their website today snappily-titled Oxford band Stornoway to play first gig in Stornoway, an excellent headline which is almost longer than the piece itself.  Good work.

Geographic confusion aside, another reason to check out this show is local folk/pop/country/indie/rock/whatever band The Deportees.  This (by my reckoning, correct me if I’m wrong) will only be their fourth gig and they’ve already created a bit of a stir round town.  Featuring former members of Edgar Prais and Eddison, this lot know what they’re doing and it shows; amazing harmonies and not afraid to rock out when needed…add in Lanarkshire singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni and you’re looking at a decent Sunday night out…

Thursday 8 April | Snafu | 10pm | £3

Tonight! Which is a night that appears to be lacking in gigs somewhat , so we suggest you go to Snafu where The Little Kicks will be playing some new songs and you can find out all about newcomers In Atlanta who’ve been getting some attention round town of late.  Expect the usual Dirty Hearts Club DJs/dancing shenanigans too…

More pics, this time from last week’s Gerry Loves Records single launch night at Snafu (and what a beautiful thing the single is) where a rather, ahem, chatty crowd saw Admiral Fallow, Conquering Animal Sound (who were plagued with some horrendous sound problems but hey, anyone who has a toy piano, a harp and a load of wires and cables is fine by me, hopefully they’ll be back soon) play alongside the always-excellent Debutant

Thursday 1 April  | Snafu | 10pm | £3

The first of three single launch nights around Scotland for Edinburgh’s fantastically-monikered Gerry Loves Records sees them join forces with The Dirty Hearts Club in what should be the perfect way to round off a night which for many will kick-off with The Twilight Sad show at The Warehouse

Here’s the deal; they’re launching a rather lovely-looking split 7″ single featuring loops, beats ‘n’ sample merchants Conquering Animal Sound (pictured below) and Aberdonian spacey-pop type Debutant. You can get the single (and hear a preview) from their excellent website but, it goes without saying, picking one up in person at this show is the way to go.  Added support comes from Admiral Fallow (formerly The Brother Louis Collective) and the DHC DJs…

Sunday 31 January | Snafu |  9pm | £6

A little reminder for this one, the second of The Dirty Hearts Club’s 4th Birthday nights (Thursday with the Filthy Dukes was  a stormer by all accounts). There’s a wee bit more info in our previous post here (the competition’s closed now, obviously). Get down early to catch Findo Gask live.  Good band…

We’ve got a great prize to give away for this, but more of that later…

I’d imagine quite a few of you reading this have been to the Dirty Hearts Club down Snafu way at some point;  it’s a beacon of good taste on a Thursday night, I mean check out some of the bands and DJs who’ve played there on their myspace. Pretty impressive.

Anyway, they’re celebrating their fourth birthday in style with two cracking nights which encapsulate the club’s eclectic nature perfectly…
