Founder member and former bassist of punk legends Siouxsie and The Banshees Steven Severin has moved into the world of film scoring since the band’s final tour in 2002, and this Saturday he’ll be performing a new electronica-based soundtrack to accompany 1932 German film Vampyr  (I’m sure you can guess the subject matter) at Peacock Visual Arts.

Looking at the other dates on the tour, which are in much larger cinemas and galleries, this should be rather cool indeed given the intimate surroundings at Peacock.  It’ll also be about as far removed from the world of Twilight as is possible, which is a bonus…

Over the last three years Do It! have put on some great parties with great music and great visuals, unfortunately, this is their last-ever night.  Boo.  As you’d expect though, they’re going out with a bang…

There’s a live set from Parisian synth magician dÉbruit (Civil Music), now usually I’ll read a quote like “his music is a no holds-barred assault through dark Congolese sound systems, downtown L.A. block parties gone wrong, haze-filled Kingston recording studios and freaky Tunisian backstreet souks, all powered by a fat hip hop engine”  and think “aye, OK” , but on listening to the tune on the video below, there’s more than an element of truth in there.  He’s well-known for putting on a great live show too…

Also doing his live thing for the first time in the city is Auntie Flo, aka Glasgow DJ Brian d’Souza (who’ll be bringing along Sub Club resident ESA on percussion duties) and, as you’d expect, the usual Do It! residents will also be on hand.  There’s a warm-up session upstairs in The Athenaeum with the Tuff Wax-affiliated Aberdeen Truth crew too.

So, goodbye Do It! and thanks for the memories, although we’re reliably informed that co-founder Alexander Horne will be back in 2012 with a new record label venture…

A preview of a collaborative exhibition featuring new work from local artists in response to the excellent, weird electronica of Fiona Soe Paing. At 6pm on Wednesday Fiona will perform a piece featuring music, projections and live vocals, all of which which is guaranteed to make post-work/tea-time that wee bit more interesting. The exhibition itself then runs until Sunday 29 May.

This is gonna be huge.  Local promoters Let It Bleed bring some big names to town, and  it’s only superb French house/electronica duo Cassius who are guesting at their Halloween party on Friday.  Wow.  Good timing too, as Cassius have  just released a much-awaited new 6-track EP on Ed Banger Records, you can check out one of the tunes here (YouTube).

Anyway, Let It Bleed are so excited about it all, they’ve made a promo video for the event featuring a scary balding clown in a dress dancing around and stuff. That’s it below.  Warning: It’ll probably keep you awake from now until the doors open…

Right. This one’s on Friday.  Fenech-Soler are a Northamptonshire electro-pop band who’ve been getting some serious coverage of late.  In what’s frankly an amazing stroke of luck for me, Gigwise have just released a video of them talking about their new album (it’s on the right hand side of the site).  So you can just watch that.

Indian Red Lopez have been on this site so many times it’s embarrassing.  You know them by now, here’s a wee interview we did with them a while back anyway.  Final band on the bill are young, electro-laden locals In Atlanta. They’re pretty good too.

He’s been working on his solo material for a while now (alongside producer and cohort Iain Macpherson) and an EP ‘The Best of Times’ on Bedford Records is incoming on 20th September ahead of an album in November.  There are some pretty good, erm, goodies on it, including a cracking wee version of Orange Juice’s ‘Rip It Up’ (which has received the stamp of approval from Edwyn Collins himself on Twitter apparently). Check out the lead track below but, as always in these situations, try and support the local scene by buying a physical copy from One Up or a digital one fae yer that there iTunes if and when you can…

Good line, and it sums up Do It! pretty well, which is why I nicked it from them. Sure, we’ve featured their parties before, but they’re consistently good and this one in particular has ‘belter’ scrawled all over it:

Bringing his full live show to Aberdeen for the first time is Edinburgh’s Lamplighter whose superb blend of experimental hip-hop, electronica, and sparse, glitchy beats will be augmented by live backing vocals and various other bellage and whistleage.  Should be quite special.  He’s got an album out on Antimatter too which you can get your mitts on here.

The usual Do It! residents will be in attendance as well of course; Uraki Riddim, Kid Bell and White Chocolate and there’ll be visuals, live illustration and various other arty goodness courtesy of the MOC/Uber AV crew too.  Super.

Promoters, DJs, remixers and a band, Belfast’s Skibunny seem to have things pretty well-covered to say the least.  It’s the band version we get at The Tunnels, the final date of a scoot round the UK to celebrate the release of their new EP.  Nice, catchy, shimmery electro-pop is what they do,  and very well they do it too…

As you’ll have gathered, this is a Polar Bear Club night, so you get local DJs Ross Calder and JJ Bull as well (another promoter and someone who’s in a band respectively, heh).

Aberdeen-based Fiona Soe Paing’s beautiful electronica, beats, visuals and vocals have been registering ever-louder on radars across the country of late, so this chance to catch her in her hometown is very welcome indeed.   Listen to her single ‘Deep Song’ here and see why the buzz is entirely justified.  We’ll be featuring more from Fiona ahead of the release of her upcoming DVD/EP on the site soon.  Stay tuned…
