Sunday 2 May | Mambo’s, Peterhead | 1pm | Sold Out

Yeah, it’s a wee while away but this is shaping up to to be one of  best reasons to go to Peterhead in history (apologies to any Blue Toon locals/lovers reading this) as local promoters Shmeet The Beat go all-out for their May Day special…

Featuring a DJ set from former Creation Records head honcho, hat fan & unapologetic antagonist Alan McGee, the line-up also includes some fine, fine bands from round these parts and beyond including Indian Red Lopez, the Fence Collective’s electronic wizard OnTheFly, Cast of the Capital, The Underkills, Steven Milne & many more, and it’s all in aid of Breast Cancer Care too.  Time to head North then, and it’s not often we get to say that…

Full line-up after this pic of McGee (in full flow by the looks of it), and it’s pretty damn good…

Pop Boutique: Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 March | 22 Schoolhill | 10am-5pm| Free

Do It!: Saturday 13 March | The Tunnels | 9pm | £3

A couple of events this weekend in aid of social care charity VSA:

First up, in the old Harley Clothing store at 22 Schoolhill, Pop Boutique (Facebook event page) gives you the chance to buy exclusive pieces from young Scottish artists, designers and creative bods…

Then it’s off down The Tunnels from 9pm on the Saturday for an afterparty courtesy of the Do It! crew.  A move from their regular haunt of Cellar 35 means they can kick up things a notch, so expect all the things they’re good at (great visuals, eclectic selectors, funk, house, 80s tunes, dancing, artwork, that kind of stuff) to be somewhat multiplied and amplified, which, to state the screamingly obvious, is a good thing.  Soundtracked by Do It! resident White Chocolate alongside guest Kid Bell, the night also sees the launch of the Aberdeen Sketch Book project (look! another Facebook event page). Aye, this lot know how to fuse art and music together alright.  More power to them…

Tuesday 12 January | Snafu | 7.30pm | £5/£4

Short notice (it’s tonight!), but this is for such a great cause…

Snafu Comedy Club are holding a fundraiser for Aberdeen cancer charity CLAN with Glasgow-born Kier McAllister, Aussie Marcus Ryan and Aberdeen’s Andrew Learmonth all giving up their time and fees to put on a show.  It’s also guaranteed to be over by 11pm for those who turn into pumpkins after a certain time on schoolnights…

Music/Arts: Kilau

December 5, 2009

Lots going on down at Kilau Coffee just now;  Monday (7 December) sees the opening of a new exhibition by photographer Chris Henderson and (drumroll)…the fourth edition of their annual Christmas CD is ready!  Entitled ‘Merrily We Go 4th’  it features a fine selection of seasonal tunes by some equally fine local acts. A compilation of the best of the previous three CDs is also available.   They’re £3 each or £5 for both, all proceeds go to charity and you can get your be-mittened mitts on them down at Kilau.   Click the link after the pic for tracklistings…
