Music: July (and beyond) at The Lemon Tree

After a brief hiatus in which we seem to have been on a mission to seek out the wettest part of Scotland (so far, it’s been a draw), we return with another post from The Lemon Tree. This month, they look back at their year so far, and look forward to some upcoming shows:
So we’re half way through the year and what a time we’ve had at The Lemon Tree! In January we had a fantastic sell-out show with The Maccabees and followed that up with brilliant performances from Rachel Sermanni, Band of Skulls, Errors, Midge Ure, Stiff Little Fingers, Black Stone Cherry, The Xcerts, Pigeon Detectives, Admiral Fallow and We Were Promised Jetpacks among others. I’m sure you’ll agree there really has been something for everyone with the fantastic programme we’ve been able to bring you! Have you any stories of shows you’ve particularly enjoyed? Come and share them with us at our Facebook page.
Anyway, let’s look forward and tell you what we have coming up. We’ve a bit of a quieter time in the summer while you are away enjoying your holidays but still have a couple of crackers in the pipeline. On the 21st of July we host the National Youth Jazz Orchestras of Scotland. Playing with the fantastic Rick Taylor, this performance will showcase the finest young jazz musicians Scotland has to offer. Celebrating their 20th anniversary tour, this will be an opportunity to see some incredible talent combined with daring trombonist Rick, and a night to remember.
The ever-popular Niki King and the Elements then take to the stage on the 27th July to give us a outstanding evening of jazz. Showcasing songs from her upcoming album It’s All Good, we’ll get a taste of why Niki was a winner of the Perrier Award and has been compared to Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick. Performing with her pounding 8-piece band, this show will surely prove why her live shows have been getting 5-star reviews of late. (More after the photo..)
The rest of the year is also shaping up nicely with highlights coming from Field Music, Wishbone Ash, Hue and Cry, local lass Sandi Thom and up and coming star Benjamin Francis Leftwich. We’re also pleased to announce a show from Tim Burgess at The Lemon Tree on 18th October (tickets onsale now). Best-known for being the singer/songwriter in The Charlatans, Tim will touring his forthcoming second solo album. If that isn’t enough for you the popular Letz Zep will be returning on 26th April 2013 playing the classic hits of Led Zeppelin. Be sure not to miss out on tickets for some of our upcoming Music Hall shows either: In the coming months we have sets from The Charlatans (Tim will be busy!), All Time Low and Twin Atlantic. All tickets can be booked at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by calling 01224 641122 or visiting any of the venue Box Offices.
